Frequently asked questions

Q: Can parents and guardians be present in the classroom?
A: To foster an environment where students can thrive independently and build strong peer relationships, we have established a policy that parents and guardians are not allowed in the classroom during instruction. This policy is also to minimize distractions and ensure safety and security for all students. We understand that parents want to be involved in their child's education, and we encourage you to participate in other ways, such as volunteering for special events. We will give notice of those events. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay on the premises but will not be allowed in the classroom during instruction.

Q: What is the attendance policy?
A: Please inform us well in advance if your child will be absent. Our class sizes are intentionally small to ensure ample time for individual attention. Punctuality is crucial. If your child cannot attend a class, please give notice so another child in the community can take their place.
Q: How can parents stay informed about their child’s progress?
A: We provide regular updates through emails and newsletters. You can also reach out to us anytime with questions.
Q: Are there additional fees associated with classes?
A: Not at this time. There may be fees for materials or special activities when multi-week projects are offered. We will provide a detail breakdown at the time of enrollment.
Q: What should my child bring to class?
A: Students should bring a water bottle and any other required materials specified by the instructor.
Q: How are behavioral issues handled?
A: Please carefully review our discipline policy. We follow a positive discipline approach. Any behavioral issues will be addressed with the student and communicated with the parents.
Q: Are there any special events or field trips?
A: At this time, no. In the future we may organize various events and field trips throughout the year to enhance the learning experience. Details will be shared in advance.
Q: What is the policy on snacks and lunches?
A: Parents will be notified in advance if lunches or snacks are required for your child’s class. This will be determined based on the length and schedule of the session.
Q: Are there any health and safety protocols in place?
A: Yes. We follow strict health and safety guidelines including regular sanitation, handwashing, and maintaining a clean environment.

Discipline Policy

At Brighten Learning Center, we are committed to creating a positive and safe learning environment for all students. To ensure this, we have established the following discipline policy.

Respect and Kindness

All students are expected to treat their peers, teachers, and staff with respect and kindness. Bullying, harassment, or any form of unkind behavior will not be tolerated.

Safety First

Students must adhere to all safety guidelines and instructions provided by their teachers. Engaging in unsafe activities that could harm oneself or others is strictly prohibited.

Positive Discipline

We believe in positive discipline and will address any behavioral issues with a constructive approach. This includes discussing the behavior with the student, understanding the underlying causes, and working together to find a solution.

Consequences for Misbehavior

If a student engages in bullying, unsafe activities, or other disruptive behaviors, the following steps will be taken:

  • First Offense: A verbal warning and a discussion with the student about the behavior.

  • Second Offense: A written warning and a meeting with the student’s parents or guardians.

  • Third Offense: Temporary suspension from our classes with a mandatory meeting between the student, parents, and staff to discuss re-entry conditions.

Open Communication

We encourage open communication between students, parents, and teachers. If you have any questions or concerns about the discipline policy, please feel free to reach out to us.

Support and Guidance

Our goal is to support each student in their personal and academic growth. We provide guidance and resources to help students develop positive behaviors and conflict resolution skills.

Refund Policy

Our STEM classes operate under a no refund policy, which we have established to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for all participants. We kindly request that all classes be booked and paid for at least one week in advance. This advance notice allows us to prepare adequately and secure the necessary materials for each class, as our enrollment is limited. While we are unable to offer refunds, we understand that circumstances may arise. Therefore, we will consider providing credit for future classes on a case-by-case basis. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a quality learning environment.
